Some rock bands sound as fresh and valid today as when their albums first dropped. A perfect example would be the Pixies, acclaimed as the most influential, pioneering band of the late ’80s alt/rock movement. Over the course of five studio album releases from 1987 through 1991, the Boston-bred group – which included singer/guitarist Black Francis, guitarist Joey Santiago, bassist Kim Deal, and drummer David Lovering – created a body of work that spawned many alt/rock radio standards, and influenced countless subsequent bands, including Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Radiohead. Now, these five classic releases are going to be reissued as both Limited Edition and Deluxe Edition collector’s sets entitled Minotaur. Spearheaded by Jeff Anderson, founder of A+R (Artist in Residence), who has put together expansive and eye-catching versions of releases by Nine Inch Nails, Beck, and Sigur Ros – Minotaur will be available for pre-order at www.ainr.com beginning Monday, June 15, 2009. The Minotaur Deluxe Edition will retail for $175, while the Minotaur Limited Edition will be priced at $450. In this physical “unboxing” of the brand new Pixies’ box set, Minotaur, the pieces that make up the monstrous Limited Edition set. The Pixies: Minotaur – Limited Edition: The definitive Pixies collector’s piece. Contains all five Pixies’ studio albums (Come on Pilgrim, Surfer Rosa, Doolitle, Bossanova, and Tromp le Monde) in the following formats: 24k gold plated CD’s; five 12″ – 180 gram vinyl LP’s cut from the original analog tapes; Blu-ray Disc mastered for 5.1 surround sound and 2 channel stereo at 96/24 high-definition; and DVD-Audio mastered for 5.1 surround sound and 2 channel stereo at 96/24. Also included is the previously unreleased Pixies 1991 live performance from Brixton, on both Blu-ray and DVD, mastered for 5.1 surround sound. All discs are housed in a custom designed folio. This set is curated by legendary graphic designer, Vaughan Oliver, who with photographer Simon Larbalestier, were responsible for the visual aesthetic for all of the Pixies’ albums. Oliver and Larbalestier have collaborated once again on Minotaur, to create their largest Pixies body of work to date. The duo’s extensive work is featured in a 96-page fine art book measuring 22″ x 14″, and a smaller 52-page book measuring 7.75″ x 8.25″.
